Hip fractures. These are major health
issues globally. The risk of Largo
hip fracture is impacted adversely
by drugs taken for all sorts of issues and helpfully
by nutritional supplements. Hollstrom & Associates Inc constantly keeps in
mind the risk of fragility hip fracture in our patients with
osteoporosis and carefully monitors
our Largo osteoporotic patients. A new, uncomplicated
way to address hip fracture risk seems to be once-a-day
multivitamin supplementation. Easy!
Largo OSTEOPOROSIS AND HIP FRACTURE
As easy as it seems, just figuring out
who are at risk for osteoporotic hip fractures and treating them to prevent
a hip fracture is occasionally a trick! A meta-analysis
(a top-level review) of published research findings about
the efficacy of screening the general population reported
that such screening reduced osteoporotic fractures and hip
fractures. (1) Hollstrom & Associates Inc is vigilant about looking for at-risk
Largo osteoporotic and hip fracture patients.
DRUGS AND Largo OSTEOPOROTIC HIP FRACTURE
Fragility hip fractures and associated matters
including mortality are issues for healthcare providers. Some
pharmaceutical products are reported to change
bone structure and influence the risk of fragility hip fractures.
These drugs were significantly linked to
these fractures in this review of 38 studies on the subject:
antidepressants, antiparkinsonian drugs, antipsychotic drugs, anxiolytic drugs,
H2 antagonists, benzodiazepines, proton
pump inhibitors, and thyroid hormone.
One drug intervention was linked to a decreased risk of hip fracture: hormone replacement therapy with estrogen. The advice
researchers suggested to give patients at risk of fragility hip
fractures caused by medications: information
about osteoporosis and fracture prevention. (2) That’s good
advice. Hollstrom & Associates Inc is all about giving out information and would
add that new research indicates that supplementation helps.
Largo CHIROPRACTIC SUGGESTED NUTRITIONAL SUPPLEMENTS
AND HIP FRACTURE REDUCTION
As hip fracture is a serious complication of osteoporosis, a
non-drug approach like multivitamin use and its effect on hip fracture risk is most
interesting. A
meta-analysis reported on 8 studies on hip fracture risk and
multivitamin use. 80,148 subjects – 4237 of them had a fragility hip fracture –
were included. The average age was 69 years. 21% were
male. Combined multivitamin supplements are already quite popular
and widely used. Their use was observed to be
significantly protective against osteoporosis-related hip fracture. (3)
Hollstrom & Associates Inc would hate to see any of our osteoporotic patients suffer
a hip fracture!
