A cyst. What does that make you think of?
For some Largo back pain sufferers, it would be a clue
to the basis of their pain. But the diagnosis of a
synovial cyst as the culprit causing pain is a curious one. Back pain and leg pain may stem from a
synovial cyst which is where Largo chiropractic care at
Hollstrom & Associates Inc comes in to help. Largo
chiropractic care with the Cox® Technic is documented to help reduce
back pain and related leg pain due to a synovial cyst without
Largo back surgery.
SYNOVIAL CYST FACTS
First, let us take a look at what
synovial cysts are. Synovial cysts are uncommon lesions affiliated
with facet degeneration and usually found in the lumbar spine at
L4-S1. (1) 33% to 40% of synovial cysts are associated
with degenerative spondylolisthesis and instability of the involved
joint. (2,3) Synovial cysts may trigger sciatica/leg pain.
(4) Synovial cysts appear in females mostly in their sixth
decade of life, bringing about radicular pain
and neurological deficits. These cysts are generally
seen at L4-5 which is also the site of maximum mobility in the lumbar spine.
MRI is the diagnostic instrument of choice as it displays
the consistency of the cyst (more or less fluid). (5) When
synovial cysts look lighter on MRI T2 images, they are likely
more fluid filled and less probably gelatinous or calcified, making
them potentially easier to reduce. (6) Synovial cysts
have been documented to disappear particularly
if the cyst wall is not calcified. (7) Hollstrom & Associates Inc works to help
Largo back pain sufferers dealing with synovial cyst get rid of
them, too.
SYNOVIAL CYST CAUSES
Wilby et al describe a channel that joins
the facet joint capsule with the ligamentum flavum, the area where the synovial
cysts appear. At surgery for these cysts,
they discovered that fragments of articular cartilage and bone were
in the walls of the channels in 89% of the cysts. This debris jams and
prevents the channel from draining and triggers granulation
tissue and scar formation likely starting
synovial cyst formation. (8) Hollstrom & Associates Inc works on scar tissue to
enhance the spine’s fluidity.
SYNOVIAL CYST TREATMENT
Conservative treatment of lumbar spine synovial cysts is recommended
as some tend to vanish without surgery. (9)
Conservative treatment is practical. If the cyst doesn’t respond, then surgery is an option. (5) Cox® Technic has a history
of conservative care relief for synovial cysts. (10) As implemented
at Hollstrom & Associates Inc, Cox® Technic succeeded in relief when
an epidural steroid injection didn’t. (11) In another case, a 75
year old man with back and leg pain and a synovial cyst treated for 3 months/16
visits felt 80% relief. (12) Cox® Technic at Hollstrom & Associates Inc
is relieving for numerous Largo back pain sufferers
with synovial cysts.
